Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, January 24, 2019 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus.

Jackie was born on June 21, 1932 to Edward S. and Loretta (Cutsor) Micek in Columbus, NE. She graduated from St. Bon High and continued her education at the University of Nebraska, where she met Floyd “Sid” Mason. Jackie married Sid on her birthday, June 21, 1954 – the longest day of the year.

She didn’t want to get married on her birthday because she wanted to celebrate both occasions. Sid promised her 2 presents and 2 cakes every year; one for her birthday; and one for their anniversary. They left for San Diego the day after their wedding, due to Sid’s assignment with the Navy.

Sid complained how all of her shoes were taking up too much room in the car. After living as a Navy wife in San Diego, Seattle, St. Paul, MN and Elizabeth, NJ; Jackie wanted to be close to home. The family moved back to Columbus in the late 1950’s.

Jackie worked early in life as an X-ray technician. She then worked in the home raising 5 children. Prior to Alzheimer’s settling in, Jackie thoroughly enjoyed life.

She volunteered at St. Bon’s and had several hobbies. She loved to golf and play bridge with the gals. Her best advice on golf was “Swing your belly-button”.

She enjoyed searching for the best homemade margarita, and attending football games to cheer on the Cornhuskers. She enjoyed dancing, golfing and traveling with Sid. Their travels took them all over the United States and the world including Hong Kong, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

Her favorite place to travel though was to anywhere there was a grandchild. Jackie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Sid Mason; her mother Loretta Micek; and her father Ed Micek.
