James A. Chester, 62, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Schneck Medical Center. No services are planned. Arrangements are entrusted to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.

Born June 19, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA, James was the son of the late James W. and Wanda Lee Johnson Chester. He moved to North Vernon five years ago. He had previously worked in the oil fields.

He like going fishing with his buddy, Tim, and watching NASCAR. James is survived by a son, James Chester, Jr. of CA; a daughter, Christine Chester of CA; three sisters, Tena Veiver of AZ, Verna Norwood of AZ and Cindy Rhodes of North Vernon; a brother, Steven Chester of CA: his girlfriend of 18 years, Cathy Martinez of North Vernon; an uncle, great-uncle, cousins, nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wanda Chester; aunts, uncles, his grandparents; and niece, Marjorie Rhodes and great-nephew, Eric Rhodes.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
