James A. Rhodes, age 82, of Gloversville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. He was born on March 17, 1937 in Northville, a son of the late Arnold and Esther Canfield Rhodes. James was a graduate of Northville Central School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was employed for many years in the Nuclear Generator Division of General Electric in Schenectady. Mr. Rhodes was of the Baptist faith, a member of the First Baptist Church of Johnstown. James enjoyed maintaining his family home.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Cavanaugh Rhodes who he married in 2005, one son James Monroe and his fiancée Heather Peek, one daughter Amanda McLasky (Michael), one brother John “Jack” Rhodes; two sisters Joan Siver and Mary Ann Johnson; five grandchildren Arianna Monroe, Aveleen Monroe, Shea McLasky, Chase McLasky and Logan McLasky; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to James’ parents, he was predeceased by one brother Earl Rhodes and two sisters Carol Warner and Shirley Sands. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 325 S. Comrie Avenue, Johnstown with Pastor Robert E. Walter officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville following the funeral service. Contributions in Mr. Rhodes’ memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
