James Cyril Hawthorne Sr. was born on February 2, 1924, in Jena, LA and passed away peacefully on June 7, 2018, at Byrd Regional Hospital at the age of 94. Mr. Hawthorne was a member of the greatest generation and served his country in the 140th Army Air Corps Signal SQ during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater on the Admiralty Islands and New Guinea and was honorably discharged after the war with the rank of Staff Sergeant and a letter of commendation.

Mr. Hawthorne was… Read More » a man of great integrity who was dedicated to his family, committed to bettering his community, and devoted to his faith. He loved country and southern gospel music. For most of his adult life, he served as the music director and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Anacoco.

He was well known for loving his Savior Jesus Christ by loving others around him. For over 50 years, Mr. Hawthorne was a traveling salesman and was consistently a top tier producer for his company. He was recognized for his achievements by proclamation in the Louisiana House of Representatives.

Mr. Hawthorne was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Marguerite Watlington Hawthorne of Anacoco, LA; son, Gary LeClaire Hawthorne of Baton Rouge, LA; parents, Charlie and Allie Hawthorne of Parhams, LA; and sister, Verdis Hawthorne Dowdy of Alexandria, LA. He is survived by his son, James Cyril Hawthorne Jr. and wife Carol of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter, Jackie Hawthorne Martin of Anacoco, LA; step-daughter, Lynne Smith of Coushatta, LA; grandchildren, Joseph Riley and wife Jennifer, Jaime Hawthorne, Amanda Hawthorne Serignet and husband Damon, Chad Martin and wife Allison, and Todd Martin and wife Sara; and several great and great-great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Jeane’s Funeral Service in Leesville, LA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Anacoco with Reverends Chad Martin and Durhl Davis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mitchell Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Todd Martin, Joshua Martin, Charlie Strickland, Justin Hawthorne, Rickey Marze, and Jason Kees.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Marcus, Bill Tilley, Frank Hornsby, and Joey Riley.
