James Richard “Dick” Caldwell (81) of Stowe Rd. , Clover, SC Born December 27, 1936 at Henry Riddle Home, Ridge Road, Clover to the late John William Caldwell, Sr. and late Martha Parrish Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Holland Caldwell and his brother John William “Billy” Caldwell, Jr

He is survived by his Daughters, Susan Richee’ Caldwell Killian (Bryan F. Killian) of Clover, SC and Jill Richelle Caldwell Yost (John Richard “Rick” Yost) of Duluth, GA; five granddaughters Erin Richelle Yost Dimock (Colby) of Atlanta, GA, Jenna Anne Yost of Nashville, TN, Kristen Susan Yost of Auburn, AL, Jessica Leigh Killian of Clemson, SC, & Lauren Elizabeth Yost of Duluth, GA; sister Martha “Sis” Caldwell Bentley (Corsey) of Clover, SC& many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Richard graduated from Clover High School (Class of 1954). He served in the Air National Guard and was called into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Richard was a lifetime member of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Alpine Lodge #208, Clover, SC where he served as Master of the Lodge in 1991. Richard had a great love of the outdoors, loved to hunt and fish, & most importantly loved to fly airplanes.

He for many years operated the Gastonia Municipal Airport for the City of Gastonia during this time he was able to enjoy and share his great love of flying through charter trips and teaching others to fly. At his retirement from flying regularly, Richard started and ran various aircraft part businesses. Upon retirement from his careers he and his wife, Barbara travelled to their favorite spots on the Isle of Palms, Dewees Island, and Barbara’s family home in Franklin, NC.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Testa Family Hospice House, Kings Mountain, NC for their kind and compassionate care during Richard’s last hard days! Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Friday, October 12, at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Adams.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm in the church fellowship hall. Internment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Testa Family Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 or Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, PO Box 5, Bowling Green, SC 29703.
