Obituary for James Donald “Don” McKune James Donald “Don” McKune, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father on October 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Joseph; his parents, Charles and Evelyn McKune; his brother the Rt Rev. Msgr.

J. William McKune; and his sisters, Laverne Doyle, Marie McKune, and Catherine Campbell. A lifelong native of Louisville, Don spent his formative years in the Portland neighborhood. He attended Flaget High School, where he was a member of the Class of 1951.

He went on Bellarmine University, and was one of the founding members of the Bellarmine Bellaires, a musical group. Don played the drums. Later, Don graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Mortgage Banking, where he was as a member of the Class of 1969.

He worked in Mortgage Banking for 42 years, retiring from PNC Bank in 1995. In retirement, Don was a faithful servant of the communities he loved. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Flaget Alumni Association.

Additionally, he worked for Trinity High School, his adopted alma mater, for over 20 years selling tickets at athletic events with his very good friend, Dave Kelly. It was Don and Dave’s faces, no matter the weather, people saw at the admissions table of Trinity football and soccer games. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia “Ginger” Kempf McKune, his daughter Kellie A. Woodruff (Woody), and his son Michael A. McKune (Kitty).

Other family includes his granddaughters Margaret “Maggie” McKune, Erin McKune, Emily Woodruff, and Hannah Woodruff, his sister Mary Rose Shade, and his cousin Michael Hamilton. Don’s family would like to thank the staff of Norton Brownsboro Hospital, Dr. Jaspreet Grewal and his staff, Dr. Jesse Jenkins and his staff, and the Norton Cancer Institute. Additionally, the family has much appreciation for the incredible Hosparus team, including his nurses Karen, Ann, Melanie, and Heather, his social worker Jennifer, and anyone else whose name we may have forgotten.

Finally, the family would like to thank all the countless family and friends who have supported us during this difficult time. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Albert the Great, 1395 Girard Drive with burial in St. Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Flaget Alumni Association, Inc., for educational grants to memorialize the spirit and memory of Flaget High School so its spirit may be passed on to the generations of the future.
