Irelan, age 82 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. James was born in South Branch Township, Crawford County, Michigan on November 9, 1936 to Theodore and Faith (Essner) Irelan . He graduated from high school, and went on to become a hard working entrepreneur for the rest of his life.

James enjoyed playing cards and going fishing in Canada and Alaska. James is survived by his wife of 35 years, Penny J. Irelan; his children: Jim Irelan, Richard Irelan, Michael Irelan, Steven Irelan, Rodrick Schanck, and Steven Schanck; his grandchildren: Madelyn, Mallory, Macy, Victoria, Faith, Chloe, Jacob, Danielle, Kelley, Samantha, Jaemi, Kathy, Levi, Tyler, Allyson, and Sonya; and many great-grandchildren. James is also survived by his brother Merlin “Jug”; and his sisters: Barbara, Betty, Marlene, Linda, Carol, Cathy, and Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Theodore & Faith Irelan; his sons: David Irelan and Edward Irelan; his brother Leland; his sister Dian; and 2 grandchildren: Joshua and P.J. Visitation on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 3 – 9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 11 AM, also at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, with Minister Dale DuVerney officiating. The family asks that guests join them in wearing their favorite flannel shirt for the funeral service (Suspenders optional!

). In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the services. Interment of ashes will be held at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan in the Spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the family for sponsoring a school scholarship. Arrangements by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI.
