James “Jim” Gary Koopmans September 01, 1950 – January 11, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card James Koopmans, age 68 of Cambria, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at UW Hospital in Madison surrounded by his loving family. James was born on September 1, 1950, in Beaver Dam, WI, a son of Theodore and Dorothy (Winkel) Koopmans. When Jim and Arlyss were first dating, Jim was lovingly known as the “Flying Dutchman” by his soon-to-be father-in-law.

On November 8, 1969, he was united in marriage to Arlyss Bradley in Randolph, WI. Jim spent the majority of his adult life as a trucker and owned his own business. He was a devoted husband, father, loving grandfather and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping and looked forward to Sunday family gatherings. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan. Jim was a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church and was proud of his deep faith.

Jim was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in early 2018, and fought a courageous battle. He was extremely grateful to the surrounding communities for all the support and donations. Jim was recently a recipient of the Hoops for Hope fundraiser.

James is survived by his wife, Arlyss of Cambria; 3 daughters, Micki Koopmans (significant other, Greg Zander) of Deerfield, Charlene “Cheri” Koopmans (fiancé, Joey Greeno) of Randolph and Dawn (Jeff) Nehmer of Columbus; 7 grandchildren, Kiana, Shaylee, Tristen, Jayden, Caleb, Brent and Addison; 2 brothers, Marvin (Janyce) Koopmans and Duane Koopmans (significant other, Cheryl Pittman); 1 sister, Darlene (Duane) Katsma; 6 brothers and sisters-in-law, Linda (Aub) Douma, Marsha (Donnie) Froehlich, Bill (Deb) Bradley, Jim Bradley, Lorraine Gollnick and Brian (Sue) Bradley; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Brady Nehmer; his parents-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law and 1 nephew. Visitation for James will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 335 Jones Drive, Randolph and on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

A funeral service for James will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. at church with Pastor Daniel Schumann officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in James’ name.

The family would like to thank the EMTs, Divine Savior ER staff and UW TLC staff that cared for Jim during his last hours. A very special thank you to UW Carbone Cancer Center staff that helped give Jim more time. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mark Juckett and his nursing staff for their loving care during his courageous battle and to Pastor Daniel Schumann.
