James (Jim) Gross, 67, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. To honor his wishes there will be no services at this time. Jim was born on October 2, 1951 in Chicago, IL to William and Anna Lorraine (Rice) Gross.

He grew up in the Lansing, IL area where he was a member of the Catholic faith. He graduated from Bloom High School. Jim later attended Rio Hondo College in California.

In June of 1970 Jim entered the U.S. Coast Guard, where he proudly served our country until he was honorably discharged in 1972. On August 9, 2002 he was united in marriage to Candace (Egdorf) Morfitt. Following their marriage, they lived in Fresno, CA, only moving to the Grand Island area in June of 2018.

Jim enjoyed life after retirement by watching NCIS, Game of Thrones, Blue Bloods, and the Chicago Bears play on tv. He also enjoyed playing pool. Most of all he enjoyed his camping trips with Candy or just playing with his dog Rosco.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; step-children, Darwin (Emlina) Morfitt, Dustin (Veronica) Morfitt: children, Christopher Pieper, Mandy (Jason) Soovajian; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Lorrayne (William) Kennedy, Laura Ingraham, and Linda Bowden. Jim was preceded in death by an infant son, parents, and a brother. Memorials are suggested to the family.
