James Mitchell Landon, 90, of Guilford Ct, passed away suddenly June 6, 2018. He was born July 8, 1927 to Horton and Alice Landon, a lifelong resident of Guilford CT. Husband of 37 years to Clare Peck Landon, father to Drew (Pam) Landon and Marc (Bonnie) Landon, step-father to David (Dawn) Baker and Thomas Baker.

Grandfather / Grandpa / Papa to 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved immensely and was deeply loved by. Predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine Haley… Read More » Landon, his infant son Dale, his son Horton Landon, his step-daughter Janet Johnson, and his step-sons Robert and Kenneth Baker. Jim graduated Guilford High School in 1945 and joined the Navy working on a repair ship to submarines in Panama.

He met and married Lorraine in 1948 and together they started their business, Landon Lumber Company in 1955, until his retirement in 1994. Jim and Clare built their dream home in North Guilford where he was a gentleman farmer to his cows. He loved spending summer days mowing and baling hay with his children.

He loved watching and rooting for the UConn Girls Basketball and the Boston Red Sox and was elated when they finally won a World Series. An avid reader, Jim had a quiet sense of humor and was deeply loved by his family. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, June 11 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford.

Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday at First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St, Guilford. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Guilford Agricultural Society, P.O. Box 290 Guilford, CT 06437.
