James M. Murphy Sr., 80, of South Dennis and St. Petersburg FL, formerly of Brockton until 2007, passed away peacefully at home October 23, 2018. Native of Brockton, he served in the U.S. Army in peacetime. Jim was a retired career truck driver and member of Teamsters Union Local 653.

Passionate about sports, he was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed playing golf at DW Field and Blue Rock (scoring 3 holes-in-one) and fishing with his grandkids. Jim was the beloved husband of Ruth (Howard) Murphy for 58 years; loving father of Karyn Murphy Neubauer (and Karl) of Newbury VT, Sean Murphy of Dennis, Sheila Philbin (and Mike) of Brockton, and the late James M. Murphy Jr.; dear grandfather of Jason, Elyse, Colleen, Michael, Emily, Brittany, Tyler and Nathan; great-grandfather of Riley and Cole; brother of Jack Murphy of Brockton, Robert Murphy of Easton and Marguerite St. Jean of Coventry RI; and an uncle of many. Following cremation, all are welcome to memorial calling hours Sunday 2-5 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton and his funeral Monday at 9:30 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home and funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish in Brockton.
