James M.P. (J.P.) Shultz “Those Blue Ridge Mountains are all mine” On January 15, 2019, James M.P. (J.P.) Shultz reached his mountaintop at the age of 37, after a valiant battle against AML cancer. J.P. is preceded in death by his father, Jim Shultz (2012); maternal grandfathers, Jim Brock and Paul Ortery. Surviving J.P. is his mother, Patricia L (Ortery) Colwell; step-dad, William Colwell, of Galesburg, IL; sister, Elise Miles and husband, Jeff, of Orange Beach, AL; grandmother, Mary Lou Brock, of Galesburg, IL; grandparents, Walter and Mary Shultz, of TN; nephews, Kent Dixon and Bodhi Miles; beloved fur babies, Dusty and Sissy; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

After graduating from Galesburg High School in Galeburg, IL, J.P. proudly served our country in the U.S. Airforce. He had a love for the outdoors, a weak spot for all animals – especially dogs, a passion for good art, food, music, coffee, and wine with his beloved friends who were his Asheville family. We cannot thank J.P.’s friends enough for all the love and support they’ve shown him.

We would like to especially recognize Lyne Vendely and Justin Davis. Bless you for all you’ve done over the past several years! A private family service will be held at a later date.

J.P.’s remains will be scattered among his beloved mountains. Memorials can be made to Knox Co. Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity.
