James R. Niehenke, Sr. 77, of Baden, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 28, 1941 in Somerset County, PA to the late Leroy and Blanche Hay Niehenke. In 1953, the family relocated to Beaver county.

Jim was a retired crane operator for the former LTV Steel Corporation and driver for Beaver County Transit Authority. In 2009, he was the recipient of a double lung transplant at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. It was a true miracle that extended his life for an additional 9 years and for that we are thankful.

Jim enjoyed camping, the outdoors and wildlife. He had a love of antique cars and was the proud owner of a classic Monte Carlo. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, a son, James (Christine) Niehenke Jr. of Baden, a stepdaughter, Kelly (Brad )Shively of New Sewickley Township, four grandchildren, Megan and Bradley Shively of Pittsburgh, Lindsay (Eric Razo) of Akron Ohio and Jacob Niehenke of Baden, a sister, Sally Kanouff of Baden, sister in laws, Deborah Keblitsch of Wyalusing PA, Judith (Thomas) Hewitt Seymour of Tennessee, Jean Niehenke of Beaver a special friend, Michael Riley of Pittsburgh, several nieces and nephews along with special cousins from Somerset County.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lester, and a brother, Delbert in 2004. He will be sadly missed by his beloved shih-tzu Beau, whom he adored. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Morrell and the transplant team at UPMC for their care and compassion over the years.

Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Private interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Rd.
