James R. Peters, 78, of Valparaiso, passed away on July 10, 2018. He was born on June 5, 1940, in Hammond, Indiana, to Cecil and Alice (Poliski) Peters, who both preceded him in death. He was a baptized Jehovah’s Witness for many years.

James worked for Rand McNally as a binder/Stamper for many years before becoming self-employed. On May 5, 1962, in East Chicago, he married Frances Hatala. James enjoyed traveling to Florida for “extended vacations”, and making wine.

He was always willing to help friends and especially family with home repairs. He was a self-taught carpenter, electrician, plumber and built 2 homes and a barn. He is survived by his children, Randall Peters of Hebron, Eric (Melissa) Peters of Florida, Renee’ (Steve) Dodd of Noblesville, and Regina (Scott) Zurawski of Indianapolis.

He is also survived by a sister Joan (Ray) Pettit of Hammond and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Edward Peters. A memorial service for James will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at Bartholomew Funeral Home.
