Obituary for James W. Wadell James W. Wadell, 95, of Louisville, dies on Friday, September 14, 2018. Born January 1, 1923, he was the only child of Mary Alberta Wadell, whom he loved and cared for dearly. James or Bill, as his family knew him attended St. Frances of Rome Church and school, graduating in the class of 1941.
While in the 6th grade he met Dorothy Schindler, which began their friendship that grew through their high school years. It was their letter writings while Bill served as a Master Sgt. in WWII from 1943 to 1946 that this friendship blossomed.
As a result, a marriage proposal to Dot upon the first day of his return from service in January 1946. They were married at the old Holy Trinity Church in St. Matthews, on October 5, 1946 and would have celebrated their 72nd anniversary in a few short weeks. Bill was a man of strong Catholic faith, adhering to the teachings of Jesus Christ his entire life.
Dot and Bill are members of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley, practicing their faith by saying a daily rosary, a commitment Bill made during the war. He was a 37 year executive at Brown-Forman Distillery and was an innovative leader in introducing marketing research to the industry. Bill is survived by his faithful wife, Dorothy, the love of his life.
He truly was a great and loving father to all his children, daughters, Mary (John) Tierney, Anne (Neal) Augustus, Amy (Carl) Duncan, Christine (Pat) Docter, Barbara (Steve) Collard; sons, Paul (Carmella), Robert (Jill), Thomas (Kristan) and John (Gabrielle); 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Granddad lived a virtuous life, teaching each of us by his examples. The family thanks the staff at Westport Place for their excellent care and support during Bill’s two years there.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 212 Mt. Mercy Drive, Pewee Valley with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”.
