James Wesley Lackey, 74, of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away on February 2nd, 2019 at 7:10PM. A funeral service will be held on February 6th, 2019 at 1:00PM at Ball Creek Baptist Church in Talking Rock, GA with Rev. Wallace Parks officiating.

Mr. Lackey is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Martha; daughter, Julie Lackey, of Smyrna; son and daughter-in-law; Duane and Lisa Lackey, of Buchanan, 3 grandchildren, Tyler, of Rockmart, Alex, of Smyrna, Payton, of Buchanan, 2 great-grandchildren, Cain Alexander, of Rockmart, and Riley Anne of Rockmart; 2 sisters, Virginia Collier, of Smyrna, and Shirley Anderson, of Eugene, Oregon; and cousin, Betty Morgan, of Stockbridge, GA, along with numerous aunts, nieces, and cousins. He always loved sausages, biscuits and gravy, and his mother-in-law’s homemade fried apple pies. He also enjoyed homemade fruitcake and sausage-balls during Christmas time.

He was a good customer at Waffle House where he saw and met many friends. He taught his children to love the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed camping with his family in the mountains over the years and had a passion for hunting which he introduced to his son at an early age so they could hunt together.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2019 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta from 4 PM to 8 PM. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of James Wesley Lackey please visit our Sympathy Store.
