Born in Burkittsville, Maryland, March 22, 1929, Alice Ausherman Barrett Kinchen went on to meet her Savior on March 20, 2019. She is survived by her three children, Sandra Barrett Hippe of Millville, Kentucky, Brett Lanier Barrett of Cartersville, Georgia and Johnna Barrett Mitchell of Marietta, Georgia. Additionally, she left behind eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She began her career at age 16 as a telephone operator in Frederick, Maryland, where she met a handsome young bass violin player in a “hillbilly band”. Soon after, she married Thomas Lanier Barrett and eventually landed in Georgia. She continued her career with Southern Bell, while enjoying an active life and family.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Cartersville, Georgia. She was active in several service clubs, including The Loiness Club, The Red Devils and the Telephone Pioneers, where she held high office in each. At the time of her passing, she was the Resident Council President at Townsend Park Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she was often affectionally referred to as “The Queen”.

Alice was a larger than life personality who made an impression on all who had the privilege of meeting her. She was outspoken, and we all knew where we stood with her. She was the epitome of “telling it like it is”.

She outlived two husbands and was active until the end. As her family, we were incredibly blessed to have known her and experience life with Alice. We take comfort in knowing that she is safe with her Maker, kicking her shoes off, and dancing exuberantly through those Pearly Gates.

God Bless you Alice… we will see you again! Contributions can be made in loving memory of Alice to Faith United Methodist Church, 501 Grassdale Road, Cartersville, Ga. 30121.
