James William Wiegert, 75 of Grand Island died Sunday, February 24th, 2019. Celebration of life service will be 10:30 AM Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.

Cremation will take place following the service. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Grand Island Cemetery. There will be a visitation with family and friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Jim. Jim was born August 20, 1943 at Grand Island the son of William and Catherine (Sass) Wiegert. He was raised on the family farm east of Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High class of 1962.

During his senior year he was part of the Grand Island Senior High State Track and Field Championship Team. Jim served in the Nebraska Army Reserves. On August 19, 1967 he was united in marriage to Linda Lewis.

The couple were blessed with children Steve and Chad. For 46 years, Jim was employed by Southern Power as a maintenance lineman. Some of his enjoyments included time spent in the duck blind on the Platte River, watching his son play softball, time spent with family and especially his grandkids.

He is a member of the Elks, Platt Duetsche, Grand Island Saddle Club and a life member of Ducks Unlimited. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Linda; their sons, Steve Wiegert and Chad (Angela) Wiegert of Grand Island; grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Camryn, Cael, Coye, Cain and Alyvia; sister, Geraldine “Geri” (Dale) Hoagland of Grand Island; brother, Larry (Judy) Wiegert of Grand Island and brother-in-law, James (Peggy) Lewis of Omaha; his four legged companion, Max the Beagle and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Weller.
