Jon A. Baker, 86 of Grand Island died Friday, February 15, 2019 with his loving family at his side. Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.

Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force and the United Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be 2:30 PM Wednesday at the Rosehill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Jon was born December 12, 1932 at Palmer, Nebraska the son of Robert and Gladys (Zehr) Baker. He attended the Cottonwood School in Palmer until the 8th grade, graduated from Palmer High School in 1950. Jon entered the United States Air Force on February 4, 1952 serving in Korea from December 1, 1952 until December 1, 1953.

He was honorably discharged on February 4, 1956. He was awarded the Korean Presidential Citation, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star, Korean Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. He married Sharon Rowe in 1952.

To this union he was blessed with children, Jon, Jeff and Julie. In May 1983, Jon was united in marriage to VirJeanne Thede. Along with this blessing are daughters, Monica and Michelle.

Jon’s career included being a Realtor/Broker since 1967. He served on the Board of Governors from 1972-80. He opened Nein & Baker Realty – Boulder, CO in 1973.

In 1974 he started Baker Realty – Grand Island and was elected President of Grand Island Board of Realtors in 1975. From 1975-79 he served on the State Association Board of Directors. From 1982-87 he had Baker Realty – Rock Springs, Wyoming and from 1987-96, owned First Realty Group of Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona.

He served on the Education Committee – Grand Island Board of Realtors and as a Director of the Grand Island Board of Realtors. He received the Realtor of Distinction Award in 2006. Jon was a lifetime member of the Palmer American Legion and a member of the Platt Duetsche.

Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, VirJeanne; children, Jon S. (Leslie) Baker of Schertz, TX, Jeffrey A. (Loquetta) Baker of Pottsboro, TX, Julie d’Antoni of Covington, LA, Monica (David) Brandt of Windsor, CO and Michelle (Rick) Vavrik of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Myra (Tony) De La Garza of Hudson Oaks, TX, Jon T. Baker of Schertz, TX, Eric (Julie) Baker of Frisco, TX, Christine (Jeff) Berglund of Pottsboro, TX, Kari (Rick) Fluckey of Hastings, NE, Master Sargent Bryan Lonowski (fiancé Janet Walker) of Tucson, AZ, Brittany (Justin) Fortado of Richmond Hill, GA, Ashley Toye of Las Vegas, NV, Alexis DeMers of Wellington, CO and Erik (Monica) Hart of Thornton, CO; and great-grandchildren, Sharon, Antonio, Emma, Michael and Lucas De La Garza, Zachary Baker, Bree, Emma and Kate Fluckey, Braylon and Kynlee Fortado, Caleb and Camden Toye, Eli Glassford and Scarlett Hart; brothers, Wayne (Patricia) Baker of Ogden, Utah and Robert J. Baker of Grand Island and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Francis Oncology.
