Jean L. Stock of Grand Island, Nebraska died March 19th, 2019 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, March 29th at 3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, Nebraska with a reception to follow. Pastor Gary Smith will officiate the service.

Her ashes will be laid to rest in the church columbarium beside her late husband, Rol Stock. The family has suggested, as a way of honoring Jean, that you feel free to wear bright spring colors to her service. Jean was born June 22, 1944 in Carson City, Nevada to Dorothea and Melvin Ethington.

She was educated in Exeter, Nebraska and graduated in 1962. She attended Doane College and graduated with a BA in education. She taught third grade at Knickrehm and Howard Elementary schools in Grand Island and also later taught as a substitute teacher in the Grand Island school system.

She also worked at Hamilton Chevrolet and later Tom Dinsdale Chevrolet for 25 years in the office until retiring in 2014. She was united in marriage to Rol Stock on August 11th, 1968 in Lincoln, NE. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and actively involved in the choir, Prayer Shawl Ministry, and Helping Hands Women’s Club.

She was a member of the Saddle Club, a volunteer at Saint Francis gift shop, and a mentor for Teammates in Doniphan. She is remembered in love by one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Dawn Stock of Doniphan and a daughter, Kim Engel and her fiancée Jason Cornelius of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Larry Starr of Crete, and Barb and Ralph Jansen of Exeter; and a sister-in-law, Mariel Meysenburg and her husband Bill of Aurora, CO. She was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren: Tristan, Maddy, and Andrew Stock of Doniphan and Brayden and Katelyn Engel of Texas along with seven nieces and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rol Stock and her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment (GRACE) or First Presbyterian Prayer Shawl Ministry. God’s greatest gift to us is life, love and laughter.
