Roger “Ozzie” Ostwald, 81, of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Country House Residence of Grand Island, NE. Service and celebration of Ozzie’s life will be at 2:00 pm Friday, March 12 at the All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time.

Burial will be held at the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy and the Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard. Ozzie was born September 30, 1937 in Lincoln, the son of Henry and Katherine (Reifschneider) Ostwald. He grew up and attended school in Lincoln, Nebraska graduating from Teachers College.

On October 28, 1955, Ozzie enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged October 6, 1959. He married Diane Yant in 1963 and to this union two sons were born, Gary and Brad Ostwald. On May 2, 1987, Ozzie was united in marriage, to the love of his life, Sherrel Ann Hawkins in Tucson, AZ.

The couple were happily married for 32 years and resided in Grand Island. Ozzie was a successful entrepreneur with many small businesses and was the Owner/Operator of Exec-Air Inc. In addition, he owned and operated Exec Aviation in Grand Island, NE and Chandler, AZ. He was a member of the Shriners, the American Legion and the Platt Deutsche.

Ozzie loved his years as a pilot and flew many miles. HIs favorite past time was playing golf and manicuring his yard as meticulous as the golf course itself. He was a longtime member of the Riverside Country Club.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sherrel; sons, Gary Ostwald (Tracey Stevens) of Weston and Brad (Heidi) Ostwald of Papillion; grandchildren, Miranda Ostwald (Cliff Foster), Katherine Phillips, Briella and Blair Ostwald; great-granddaughters, Malaurie and Karsynn; brother, Marvin (Margaret) Ostwald of Lincoln; sister, Doris (Don) Taylor of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Stubbs. Ozzie’s family extends a sincere and gracious thank you to the staff of the Country House Residence for their compassion and care for Ozzie during his final chapter.
