Janet Elaine Shoemaker, 53, of Wellington, passed away, March 10, 2019 in Wellington, KS. Janet Elaine Shoemaker was born December 11, 1965, the daughter of Ralph Shoemaker and Edith Truscott in Arkansas City, KS. Janet attended Irving Elementary School in Winfield.

Half way through the 6th grade, the family moved to Udall, where she attended Udall elementary, middle and high school. She graduated from Udall High School in 1984. Janet attended Wichita State University and the Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, where she was studying toward degrees in Accounting and bible studies, respectively.

She obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant training which allowed her to obtain jobs helping people, which she really enjoyed. Throughout her lifetime Janet had various jobs, working at several nursing homes, the Winfield Hospital and Training Center, home health care, the Wichita Children’s home, and as private duty care for the elderly. Janet also enjoyed her time as a foster parent, which she did for several years.

At the time of her death she worked at a mental health center and a crisis shelter. She was very passionate about the jobs that she held. At the time of her passing, Janet was serving as the vice-president of the National Alliance Mental Illness (NAMI)-Butler County Chapter.

She was a very active member in the NAMI organization on a local and state level and participated in their charity walk on a yearly basis. When Janet lived in Arkansas City, Ks, she was an active member of the assembly of God Church. In recent years, Janet did not attend church on a regular basis, but her lovefaith for God was very strong.

She read the bible and listened to Christian music daily. Janet loved her niece and nephew and had a special bond with both of them. She was an animal lover and had several dogs throughout her life.

She loved to cheer on the Denver Broncos and enjoyed drawing in her spare time. Janet was a very kind person and rarely said a harshnegative word to or about any person. Janet was known to always be happy and had a contagious laugh.

She was loved by all and will be deeply missed. Janet was proceeded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Susie Shoemaker of Udall, Ks, and John and Erma Stone of Ark City, Ks. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Butler County Chapter of the NAMI foundation.
