Janet Jacobson, October 18, 1934 — October 08, 2018

Obituary for Janet Jacobson Loving mother passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Samaritas Senior Living in Saginaw. Age 83 years. Janet Elizabeth MacIvor was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 18, 1934.

Knowing it was true love, Janet married John Charles “Jake” Jacobson on October 31, 1959 in Cadillac, Michigan, after only 7 dates. He predeceased her in 1999. A proud graduate of Cass Tech high school in Detroit, Janet went on to graduate from Albion College and she held a Wayne State University Master’s Degree in nutrition.

Her varied background included stints as a lady officer in the US Marines, the first branch manager of a regional Kelly girl office, director of her own charm school, and high school and college home economics teacher. She was a professional home economist, agricultural marketing agent, cook book author and media personality on radio and television shows throughout the country, including a regular midday cooking segment on WNEM Channel 5 during the 60’s and 70’s. “Easy on the Cook” in the 1970’s- 1980’s.

She made her home with husband and son John in Freeland, where she was the first woman ever elected to serve on the school board. Janet attended St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Surviving are one son John (Heather) Jacobson, Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Rosemarie (Chris) Fielding, Livonia; many nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Don MacIvor. Honoring Janet’s wishes, her body was gifted to the University of Michigan Medical School. A Memorial service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.

, (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Kristina Truhan will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
