Born April 13, 1939, in Lake City, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Hyman and the late Addie Lou Bellflower Hyman. She was a 1957 graduate of Lake City High School. Maxine gave her heart to the Lord at a young age in Bible school and enjoyed serving the Lord in many ministries.

She was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church, and in earlier years served in various ministries at Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church in Coward. Her greatest love was teaching the primary grades in Sunday school, working with the vacation Bible school, and the women’s auxiliary program. Maxine was also a member of the Gideon auxiliary.

She was known for her cooking and homemade baking and always enjoyed the family holidays. She is survived by her husband of New Zion; a son, Donald Oneal Bryant, Jr. (Sandy) of Florence; grandchildren, Patrick Bryant (Merritt) of Florence and Kristin Bryant of Greenville; a sister, Janice Stambolitis of Florence; and sister-in-law, Loree Hyman-Walters of Princeton, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Carol and Harry Hyman; and a sister, Ruby Hyman Hilton.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Turbeville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Atkinson and the Rev. Harry Cooper officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Calvin Grooms, Mitchell Miles, Temus Miles, Mike Welch, David Nesbitt and Richard Floyd. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence, 14842 Highway 301, New Zion.
