Obituary for Janie Doris Lilly Coursey Janie Doris Lilly Coursey passed away on Thursday, April 26th at 1:45 a.m. at the Lucy Smith King Hospice Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Vernon and Evelyn Miller Lilly, her husband of 55 years, Jewell Martin Coursey, and 2 brothers, James and John Lilly. Janie attended Barret Manual Training Center and Bob Jones University.
She graduated from the Welborn School of Nursing in 1949. She took care of countless people in Henderson while serving as a nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing at Methodist Hospital for over 35 years. Janie was a member of Henderson’s First Baptist Church where she joyfully served in many capacities including Preschool Sunday School teacher, greeter, kitchen helper, prayer committee, bereavement committee and the Woman’s Missionary Union.
She enjoyed attending ballgames, dance recitals, church programs, musicals and any other activity in which her grandchildren participated. Janie and Jewell had 2 sons, Marty and his wife Ellie and Jeff and his wife Audra. Their pride and joy were their grandchildren, Jeremiah, Katelin, Marty Jr. and Lily Courtner and her husband Ryan.
Relatives and friends are invited to Janie’s Life Celebration at Benton Glunt Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday and from 1-2 p.m. at Henderson’s First Baptist Church on Sunday. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Todd Linn, PhD officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice 2410 S.
