Obituary for Mary Jon Gentry Mary Jon Gentry, age 91, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, under hospice care. Mary Jon was preceded in death by her parents Aubry and Mary Nichols, her husband, Norman Edward Gentry, her two brothers, Harold Wright Nichols, Willian Russel Nichols, and her sister, Martha Gentry. Mary Jon retired as a beautician after owning and operating her own salon, Mary Jon’s Beauty Salon.
She was very active in her church, Zion Baptist, where she was a member for more than 50 years. Mary Jon was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Chapter 186. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Henderson for her volunteer work in the community.
She was President of the Henderson Christian Community Outreach, served at the Salvation Army, was a member of the Cardinal Chapter of the American Red Cross, and volunteered at the Father Bradley Shelter for Women and Children. Mary Jon’s compassion for others and her love for her community was easily recognized and appreciated by all who knew her. Survivors include: Daughter: Tardy Ubelhor of Indianapolis, IN Double Nieces and Nephew: Donna Gentry Ehle, Melony Gentry Harrison and David Gentry Nieces and Nephews Great Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Mary Jon’s Life Celebration from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and again on Wednesday starting at 10:00 a.m. at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the funeral home with Reverend Steve Reeder officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Zion Baptist Church Building Fund and Henderson Christian Community Outreach.
