Obituary for Jasper Cornwell COLUMBUS—Jasper Cornwell, 83, of Columbus, formerly of Belgrade, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at his home in Columbus. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2018 at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton with Reverend Vern Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Main Cemetery in Belgrade with military honors by Rathbun-Fehrs American Legion Post 99 of Belgrade and Nebraska Military Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, September 23rd at the funeral home. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is serving the family. Jasper was born September 2, 1935 to William Cecil and Blanche Mildred (Green) Cornwell in rural Boone County.

He attended rural Boone County schools before attending Belgrade Public School in the 5th grade. He graduated from Belgrade High School in 1953. After, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served a tour of duty in France and Germany.

On November 19, 1960, he married Patricia Cary at United Methodist Church in Belgrade. They were blessed with four sons: Donald, Douglas, Daniel, and Darin. Jasper farmed all his life and always lived within five miles of his birth place in Boone County.

He was a livestock farmer and known for raising hogs. He was a member of the Nance County Fair Board and served as President. He was also a member of the Belgrade Cemetery Board and United Methodist Church in Belgrade.

He was a dealer of Archer oil for 35 years and did custom corn shelling for 26 years in partnership with his brother, Bill. He enjoyed traveling, camping, country music, wintering in Texas, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Pat of Columbus; sons, Doug (Lori) of Fullerton, Dan of Belgrade, and Darin (Cyndie) of Belgrade; three grandchildren, Brittany (Nick) Bertram of Fullerton, Dustin Cornwell of Belgrade, and Kyle Cornwell of Belgrade; two great-grandchildren, Reid and Brecken Bertram of Fullerton; brother, Bill (Connie) of Albion; and sister, Edith (Elmer) Knutson of El Paso, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald; brothers, Leslie and James; and sisters, Dorothy Channer and Mary Channer.
