Jay’s Obituary Jay R. Manes, 91, of Monticello passed Sunday, January 27, 2019. Mr. Manes was the 11th child of 14 children born to George Washington Asberry-Manes and Kizzy Runnells Manes of Collinsville, Oklahoma on June 22, 1927. Mr. Manes originally lived in Dumas, Arkansas before living in Monticello, Arkansas.

Mr. Manes was a retired farmer who described by his family as free-hearted and loving. Always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved to play dominos, card games and the harmonica.

On September 9, 1946 he married Febbie Jane Burnett of Yell, County Arkansas. He was a member of the Old Union Baptist Church in Florence, Arkansas. In his later years he rededicated his life to Christ.

Mr. Manes was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, parents as well as 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Survivors include 3 sons, James Manes and wife Barbara of Monticello, Bobby Manes and wife Sharon of Dumas, and Wesley Manes of Monticello. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation held 1-2 PM, Thursday, January 31, 2019 prior to funeral services at 2 PM, both held at Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Monty Meeks officiating and burial at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
