J. Dennis Miceli New London- John Dennis Miceli, 79, of New London, died Monday, July 16, 2018. Dennis was bom in New London February 19, 1939, the son of John Joseph and Margaret “Libbe” Mugovero Miceli. Dennis graduated from New London High School, class of 1957, joined the Air Force Reserves and began a long career at Pfizer working on chemistry and preparation of bulk chemicals, retiring in 1997.

He married Janet Long on Sept. 2, 1960. In addition to his wife Janet, he is survived by two sons, John Mark Miceli of New London, Christopher Joel Miceli (Cindy) of Irvine, CA; two brothers, Keith Leonard Miceli ( Delphine) of Kingwood.

, TX; Jeffrey Miceli ( Lisa )of Stonington; a sister Suzanne Miceli-Anton and his Aunt Judy Mugovero Brown both of New London. He has three grandchildren, Raquel (Thane) Keele, Michael and Nicholas of Irvine, CA. in addition to many nephews, nieces and cousins of whom he followed with pride and admiration.

Many thanks to the visits of Tom, Carl, Benny, Evan, Dennis, Jack, Deborah and all of his truly thoughtful friends. Dennis was an adventurer who loved the outdoors, exploring the world and making new friends. He was an experienced mountaineer who climbed Mt Washington every February on his birthday for 53 years, then turning his attention to Nepal to climb a portion of Mt Everest.

Den was also an avid kayaker. He was proud of his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout and attended the Boy Scouts Jubilee Jamboree in Warwickshire, England in 1957. His intimate knowledge of the local shoreline brought clams and his special clam chowder to every summer gathering of family and friends.

Den also cooked for the Italian Club in Groton for many years. He was proud of his volunteer work and the many friends he made at Ocean Beach Park and recently received formal recognition from the Mayor of New London. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 Friday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave.

, New London. Remembrances will be shared at 6:30. Interment will be on a later date.
