Jean Mitchell, 96, of Gaston, Indiana, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Golden Living Center in Muncie. Jean was born January 26, 1922 in Blackford County, Indiana to the late Vincent and Mable (McNichols) Cheney. She attended Eaton High School and graduated from the Muncie School of Practical Nursing.

Jean worked as a nurse in the emergency room at Ball Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Living Hope Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Jean enjoyed traveling and playing cards, especially Euchre.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Ginny Oldfield; two sisters, Martha Lovett and Jackie Mansfield; six grandchildren, Lori Snow, Phillip Snow (wife Tricia), Scott Oldfield, Angie Murdock (husband Kenny), Carol Wolfe (husband Kirk), and Shelley Tenbusch (husband Stan); four step-children, Joe Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Kathy Ward, and Chris Mitchell; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Robert Osborne Sr.; 2nd husband, Dale Mitchell; son, Bob Osborne Jr.; grandson, Billy Osborne; Step-son, Mike Mitchell; and four siblings, Robert, Ilene, Patricia, and John Cheney. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Golden Living Center and Compassus Hospice for the care and compassion given to Jean.

A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St., Gaston, IN 47342. Jean’s nephew, Pastor Michael Osborne, will officiate. Cremation will follow services.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Compassus Hospice, 3640 N. Briarwood Ln. Suite 1, Muncie, IN 47304 or to A.R.F., 1209 W. Riggin Rd.
