Jean Freed, age 85, a lifelong resident of Unionville, died Saturday, September 1, 2018, surrounded by her family, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born April 19, 1933 in Unionville, she was the daughter of the late Jacob B. and Mary Burtner Young. She was the wife of Donald L. Freed Sr., her husband of 63 years.

Jean was a member of Linganore United Methodist Church, Unionville. She and her husband were dairy farmers on the family farm until retirement. She enjoyed flying… Read More » and was a graduate of the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK, receiving her pilot’s license.

In addition to her husband she is survived by children, Shari Arrington and husband Mark of Unionville, Beverly Freed of Frederick and Donald L. “Bud” Freed Jr. and wife Dianna of Unionville; 7 grandchildren, Maria Remsch and husband Brian, David Arrington and wife Kelly, Katherine Brice and husband Andrew, Jimmy Arrington and wife April, Rebecca Dillman and husband Chris, Timothy Freed and wife Renee and Matthew Freed and 10 great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at Hartzler Funeral Home-Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd.

, Frederick, with Rev. Stephen Ricketts, church pastor and Rev. Michael Leftwich, former pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Linganore Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 5. Memorial donations may be made to Libertytown Volunteer Fire Dept.
