Ruland, 73, of Warrens died Wednesday February 20, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Serenity House, Tomah. She was born to Robert and Jeanette (Kuehl) Bolton on May 26, 1945 at the Sparta Hospital. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Ev.
Lutheran Church, Tomah. She was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1963. On November 12, 1966, Jean was united in marriage to Francis Ruland at St. Paul Ev.
Lutheran Church. They lived east of Tunnel City until they purchased a farm in the Town of Lincoln on April 1, 1971. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for the First Bank of Tomah, as well as, RIA Federal Credit Union.
After taking some time off, Jean returned to work for St. Paul Ev Lutheran School as a custodian and later in housekeeping at the Super 8 Motel and Tomah Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2018. Throughout her working years, Jean enjoyed the special bonds she created with her co-workers in which she considered to be dear friends, exchanging cards and gifts during the holidays and special times always was something she loved to do. Exploring for hidden treasures in antique stores and attending craft shows, along with cross stitching were a few of her favorite past times.
In her down time, you could always find her with a book in hand getting lost in a novel. Jean was known by her beloved grandchildren as “Grandma Waffle’, spending time on the farm and at Grandma’s house where there was always delicious snacks and grandma’s homemade dinners, were times filled with laughter and lots of love. Always humble, always kind she will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Francis, a daughter Tonya (Tim) Schroeder of Warrens, a son Aaron (Laura) of Tomah, 4 grandchildren, Patric and Peter Schroeder, Jarrett and Jaxon Ruland, a brother Duane (Paulette) Bolton of Tomah, 2 brother-in-law Alois (Cheri) of Chippewa Falls and Jerry Sr Holmes of De Forest,, 2 sisters-in-law Rita (Robert) Uchytil of Riverview, Florida, Rose Marie (Hans) Gulick of King George, VA, aunts Marguerite Seflow, Judy Kuehl and Janey Kuehl, an uncle David Kuehl, nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jeanette Bolton, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Arlene Ruland, 2 sisters-in-law Karen Holmes and Diane Steele, and a brother-in-law, Robert Steele. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church 4285, US-12 Warrens, WI.
Pastor Mark Wilkens will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Church on Friday from 9:30 A. M. until the time of the service.
