Obituary for Jean Davis (White) Lorena Jean (White) Davis, 88, of Battle Creek died peacefully in Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, on Sunday July 8, 2018, due to injuries from a fall. She was born March 6, 1930 in Yunnanfu (Kunming) Yunnan, China to missionary parents, Dallas and Vera Mosebar White. Her mother, Vera, was tragically killed in China when Jean was just one and her sister, Ardyth, was three years old.

When two years old, Jean and older sister Ardyth, returned by ship to the U.S. to be with their maternal grandparents, Frank and Ella Choate Mosebar. Jean continued to live with her grandparents in California for most of her formative years. She married Glenn Davis in September of 1948 and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this September.

Both Glenn and Jean spent much time with their grandparents, and, as a result, learned much about their ancestry. Perhaps this began their passion for genealogy, which prompted travels and chasing ancestors by visiting original properties, libraries, courthouses, cemeteries and distant relatives. Jean was fastidious about accurate documentation and often ended up correcting errors found in printed genealogies.

This interest in history and genealogy branched out to include local history, and Jean became an important rerdzt/ for information on early pioneers and homes in the Battle Creek Advent Village. In recent years, her eyesight and health began to decline. During this time she was lovingly cared for by her husband, Glenn Davis.

Although her declining health limited her ability to go out and do research she still enjoyed going over her ancestral notebooks and trying to solve old genealogical mysteries. Jean loved a good laugh and will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Davis, daughters Susan Davis Patt (Stephen), and Julie Davis, grandson Jonathan Patt, sisters Ardyth Hoffman and Merrilyn Breingan, and brother, Robert White, as well as nieces and nephews.
