Fox passed away at home Saturday, January 5, 2019. Born Jeanne d’Arc Fournier in North Stratford, NH, the daughter of Florida E. (Devost) and Thomas Fournier on July 25, 1924. She grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Immaculate Conception School and graduated valedictorian from Rosary High School.
After high school she attended and graduated from Hampden College of Pharmacy, and was one of the first women pharmacists in Western Massachusetts. Jeanne was employed by Liggett’s in Northampton, John’s Center Pharmacy in Granby, Cowan’s Drug Store in South Hadley, and retired from Holyoke Hospital. Jeanne met her lifelong partner, the late Kenneth C. Fox, at the circulation desk of the Holyoke Public Library.
They wed in June 1951, and were married for 64 years. They lived and raised their children in Granby, and South Hadley. She is survived by her children: son Louis Fox at home who was her patient, devoted and loving caretaker for her journey through Alzheimer’s; son Stephen Fox of South Hadley; son Christopher Fox and his wife Dale Gardner-Fox of Belchertown, and daughter Michelle Fox and husband David Crow of South Orange, NJ.
She also leaves grandchildren Andrea Fox and husband Peter Knutson of Schenectady, NY; Angus Fox of South Hadley; Antonina Fox of Chicopee; Casey Fox of Boston; Ian Fox of Ann Arbor, MI; Helen Crow of Charlottesville, VA; Eli Crow of South Orange, NJ, and great-granddaughter Veda Fox Knutson of Schenectady, NY. She also leaves behind her sister Claire Tabak of South Hadley, brothers-in-law Harvey Lafleche and Roland Pelissier; and many cherished nieces and nephews and their families. Jeanne was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Renata Gajewski Fox; sisters Gertrude Lafleche and Laurette Pelissier; brother Maurice Fournier and his wife Marguerite; sister-in-law Josephine (Joie) Turgeon and her husband Norman, and brother-in-law Leo Tabak.
She volunteered at Kate’s Kitchen and was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church in South Hadley. Her interests included gardening, playing bridge, reading and spending time with her family. A memorial service will be held at Curran-O’Brien Funeral home on Friday at 11 am.
Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Holyoke Public Library, or the local charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, South Hadley Falls.
