Jeffrey C. Gray, 59, of Pottsville, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after a long battle of mental illness and kidney disease; on Saturday, May 26th, at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident. Born in Bethlehem on July 27, 1958, he was a son of Joan O. (Schruff) Gray, of Orwigsburg and Robert W. Gray, Jr., of Pottsville. Jeff was a graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Class of 1976.

He loved his family, animals, and playing chess. Jeff is preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Gray, III, and his former wife, Cynthia Gray. In addition to his parents, he is also survived by two sisters, Eileen M. Rhody & husband, Andrew J., of Schuylkill Haven, & Debra Schiavoni, of Lancaster; a brother, Gregory Gray & wife, Elizabeth, of Pottsville, and eight nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31st, with Monsignor Edward Zemanik officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in the church’s chapel. Interment will immediately follow mass at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff’s memory may be made to “NAMI”, The National Alliance for Mental Illness: P O Box 62596, Baltimore, MD 21264.
