William M. Heffner, 98, passed away Sunday, May 20th, at Luther Ridge, Pottsville, where he had been a resident for one year. Born in Pottsville, PA on December 15, 1919, he was a son of the late Roy & Celia (Schoener) Heffner. He was the widower of Anna Mae (Bobbs) Heffner, who passed away in 1981.

In addition to his parents and wife, William is also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Heffner, and sister, Catherine Sherry, and his traveling companion, Charlotte Dunn. He was a 1937 graduate of Pottsville High School, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Pottsville. William was also a member of Pottsville Rotary Club, St. Clair Old Timers, and both the Pottsville and Lemoyne, PA, VFW Posts.

He served aboard a ship in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class during WWII. William was formerly employed by Capitol Bakers, and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor. Until his death, Bill was an active part of his family and community.

He drove until he was 97 and still never missed an opportunity for a new adventure. He held Penn State Football tickets for close to 50 years, and loved watching the Phillies and golf on TV. He enjoyed reading and following the stock market.

At 98, he could still up to the minute stock prices. One of his great loves was visiting new places. He traveled all over Europe, China, Thailand, and the far East.

He spent most of his recent winters in Florida with his two daughters. He is survived by two daughters: Linda Lotz & her husband, David, of Ardmore; and Kay Ann Heffner & her significant other, Kenneth Warren, of West Palm Beach, FL, and nieces & nephews. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, May 25th with Rev.

Harold Hand officiating at 11 a.m. at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A viewing will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Pottsville.
