Jerome L. Schmidt, age 72, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Sunny Ridge Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a brief resident. He was born in Sheboygan on September 10, 1945 to the late Alex and Fern (Wieck) Schmidt. Jerome was employed at RCS in Sheboygan.

Throughout his lifetime, Jerome lived in numerous group homes within the county and most recently lived in the apartments on Niagara Avenue in Sheboygan. Jerome was a happy going individual who could always put a smile on your face.

He loved to listen to polka music and watching The Lawrence Welk Show. He also enjoyed reading his magazine books. He liked eating brats while drinking his n.a. beer.

Jerome is survived by his sisters, Jacqueline Zastrow and Gloria Walczak and a brother Randall Schmidt. Nieces, nephews and many friends further survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law William Walczak and Wilmer Zastrow Jr. A funeral service for Jerome will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N 8t St. Sheboygan, with Pastor DuWayne Hanke officiating.

The family will greet visitors on Friday, at the funeral home, from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. Jerome will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the caregivers who took care of Jerome throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jerome’s name.
