Obituary for Jerry L. “Bootie” Smith Jerry L. “Bootie” Smith January 27, 1947-April 7, 2018 Jerry L. “Bootie” Smith, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday April 7, 2018 at his home in La Porte, Indiana. He was born January 27, 1947 in Oyster Bay, New York, the son of Lewis Smith and Cosette (Herrick) Kuhn. Jerry retired as a construction worker.

He served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Lesser Good Conduct Medal during Vietnam. Jerry completed degree requirements at Indiana State University, graduating cum laude. He was a member of the American Legion Post 83 of La Porte.

Jerry enjoyed going to the Four Winds Casino and spending time with friends at Ye Olde Pipe Shoppe. He is survived by his two brothers, Jeffrey (Connie) Smith of La Porte, IN, Jim (Marta) Smith of La Porte, IN; sister, Sally (Don) Cashmer-McCune of Ennis, MT; nephew, Jeff Smith; two nieces, Lindsay Carr, Caitlin Hart; several great nieces and great nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by both his parents.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave. , La Porte, Indiana. Private family services will be held at a later date.
