Jess’ Obituary Jessie Newman Burchfield passed from this life on February 8th, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years. He was born on January 4, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama to Howard and Winefred Burchfield and raised in Bessemer, Alabama. Jess joined the U.S. Army at an early age and moved to Oklahoma where he was stationed at Ft.

Sill in Lawton. An army buddy, Paul Andrews, invited Jess to his home during one of their military leaves and there he met his future wife and the love of his life, Dorine Taiclet, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Upon his discharge from the army the couple married and lived for a short time in Ponca City.

Initially moving to Oklahoma City, where their first son was born, subsequent moves found them in Tulsa and finally Verdigris, Oklahoma where they resided for almost fifty years, raising two sons and one daughter. Jess spent his entire career with Western Electric (AT&T) Company as an electrician/telephone equipment installer. Upon his retirement and in his later years, he enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Lake Tenkiller; and there seemed to be nothing he couldn’t fix, always tinkering with various projects around the house.

Avid travelers, Jess and Dorine piloted their travel trailer across the country as part of the Pioneer Bell Telephone Club, often participating in service projects at schools that needed technology installations that they could not otherwise afford. He also loved gardening, playing the stock market, and spending time with his family while doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Burchfield was preceded in death by his parents: Howard and Winefred (Ware) Burchfield; two brothers: Howard, Jr., and Robert Burchfield; two sisters: Mary Ann Cochran, and Frances Burchfield.

Survivors include his wife: Dorine Burchfield of Claremore; two sons: Gary Burchfield and his wife Debbie of Tulsa, OK, Larry Burchfield and his wife Melinda of Richland, WA; one daughter: Susie Burchfield and her wife Anne of Milton, TN; Grandchildren: Becky Dyson of Stillwater, OK, Elizabeth Harwood of Tulsa, OK, Ben Burchfield of Eugene, OR, and Bryce Burchfield of Houston, TX; seven great-grandchildren: Brayden Dyson, Addison Harwood, Aiden Harwood, Brooks Dyson, Hunter Dyson, Dylan Dyson, and Colin Harwood; as well as many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
