Jill Parker Gillum Birmingham, AL – Jill Parker Gillum, 83, of Highland Lakes and former long-time resident of Vestavia Hills, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Lee Parker; mother, Iola Howard McCardle; sister, Jo Parker McNeill; and infant daughter, Brenda Karen Gillum. She was a graduate of Sylacauga High School Class of 1953.

During her high school years she was a majorette for 4 years and was the drum majorette for 3 years in the Sylacauga High School Marching Band. After high school she attended Gulf Park College in Gulf Port, MS. She also attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and graduated in 1957.

After earning her college degree, Mrs. Gillum became a teacher and taught 1st grade at Rocky Ridge Elementary School. Mrs. Gillum is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jack Braxton Gillum; daughter, Cynthia Jill Gillum; two sons, Jack Braxton (Sandra) Gillum Jr. and Parker Nolen (Jill) Gillum; grandson, Garret Gillum; granddaughter, Emily Gillum; sister, Ann Parker Lott; brother-in-law, David Gillum; sister-in-law, Rebecca Maraman; three nieces; and three nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Gillum will be Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia.

Funeral Service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia, with Pastor Tyler Christiansen officiating. Graveside inurnment service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Lupus Foundation of America, Mid South Chapter, 4004 Hillsboro Road, Suite 216B, Nashville, TN 37215.

Contributions may also be sent to Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, 2541 Rocky Ridge Road, Vestavia, AL 35243. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www. radneysmith.com.
