Jimmie Dexter McKenzie, 80, husband of Elsie Floyd McKenzie, died Monday, July 23, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lake City, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.

Mr. McKenzie was born on February 1, 1938 in Clarendon County, son of the late Covington Raulston “Cub” McKenzie and Queen Ester Driggers McKenzie. He was a retired farmer and longtime member of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a dedicated prayer warrior, deacon, choir member, former Sunday school teacher and served as President of the Men’s Fellowship for many years. He was former Fire Chief for Clarendon County Volunteer Fire Department Barrineau Station #7.

Dexter enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a fun loving and giving person to his family and community. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Floyd McKenzie of Lake City; daughters, Debbie McKenzie (Ralph) Turner of Murrells Inlet, Kaye McKenzie (Carl Anthony) Everatt and Misty McKenzie Hall, both of Aiken and Kristie Hope Player of Lake City; grandchildren, Tony (Michelle) Everatt, April Everatt, Keira Everatt, Colt (Kayla) Everatt and Aaliyah McKenzie Hall; sister, Ethaline (Lamar) Driggers; brother, Kenneth (Bobbie) McKenzie; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by five siblings.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Homestead Hospice and to his special friends, Junior Odom, Cody and Cynthia Odom, for their care, love and concern.
