Joan’s Obituary Joan D Nagro, age 84, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland. She was born March 3, 1935, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Ashland, the daughter of Helmer “Lefty” and Lovey (Crowley) Hafstad. She graduated from Ashland High School, in 1953, never having missed a day of school.

Joan trained as an x-ray technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She worked as a x-ray tech at a hospital in Wausau, prior to being hired as lead x-ray tech at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Ashland. Joan worked at other healthcare facilities in the area and retired from South Shore Orthopedics in 2005.

On October 5, 1957, she married Brian Nagro and they had three children and many pets. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, including taking the grandkids on school shopping trips, her pets, gardening, knitting, watching the Green Bay Packers, and watching ice skating on tv. She volunteered in her children’s classrooms, was very active in Music Boosters, was involved with fundraising for Vienna 86, was treasurer for the Chequamegon Symphony Orchestra, was on the Beautification Committee, and taught piano lessons to friends and family.

Joan was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Brian; a son, Joel (Laura) Nagro; two daughters, Jodi Johnson and Jill (Rob) Garrington; grandchildren, Morgan (Craig) Adamzak, Malari (Eric Frantz) Johnson, Cassie (Earl Evensen) Nagro, Gina Nagro, and Matthew Nagro; five step-grandchildren, Steve, Tom, and David Garrington and Matt and Morgan Menting; three step-great-grandchildren, Dexter, Carter, and Opal; a brother, Skip (Linda) Hafstad, who she affectionately called “It”; her dog Gen; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and special friends including the Eaton family, Dr. A.A. Koeller, and many others. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, with Father Ducanh Pham O.F.M. officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at St. Agnes Cemetery, in Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family. Joan will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her generosity.
