Joan Marion Pickens, December 17, 1941 — November 25, 2018

Obituary for Joan Marion Pickens Joan Marion Pickens, 76, died November 25, 2018 at Greer Memorial Hospital. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Merle Cummings and Virginia Hanford Clare Cummings. Ms. Pickens was previously employed by Piedmont Industries as a computer programmer.

She then went to work for Lockheed before incorporating Intelli-Tech Services, Inc. in 1998 of which she was President and CEO for 10 years. After that she preferred to stay closer to home and tried a couple other ventures such as real estate (lousy at this) and was temporary church administrator of St. Francis Episcopal until it closed its doors. Ms. Pickens was the first female president of the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the National Association of Accountants in Utica, NY, taught Sunday School at Good Shepherd Church, Greer, and also St. Francis Church of Greenville.

She served two years as PTA President of Greer Middle School and one year as PTA President of Greer High. She is preceded in death by her husband, John O. Pickens. Surviving are seven children, Michael John Donovan of Summerville, SC, Joan Clare Kryston of Green Cove Springs, Florida, Mark Robert Donovan of Fort Mill, SC, Matthew Charles Donovan of Greenville, SC, Jeremy Owens Pickens of Buford, Ga, Jessica Marie Pickens of Taylors, SC and January Anne Adams of Greer, SC; one sister, Janet Cummings Good of Chester, CT; 15 grandchildren; 1 grandson on the way; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews and several cousins.

Starting in the spring of 2013, Ms. Pickens discovered the joy of geocaching and for the last few years has traveled the south and east coasts searching for caches and trails and collecting geocoins coercing any and all friends and family into accompanying her on these quests. New goals and places to go every month! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the March of Dimes Foundation, Donation Processing Center, P.O.
