Joanna F. Waga, 83, of Spotswood passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at home with her family at her side. Born in Wolsztyn, Poland, she was a lifelong Spotswood resident. Mrs. Waga was a middle school teacher for many years at Nowy Tonsl in Poland.

Prior to her retirement, she was a lab technician in the research department at Bristol Meyers Squibb, North Brunswick. Mrs. Waga was a long time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood where she was a member of the Alter Rosary Society and the church choir. She was also a member of the Servants of Jesus of the Devine Mercy.

She loved singing in the choir , praying the rosary and had a special spiritual relationship to Mary, The Mother of God. Uniquely, she would often time whistle religious songs in Latin. Mrs. Waga was the epitome of class and taught her family the value of hard work, strength, patience, and generosity.

She was dedicated to her family and especially her faith. In addition to her Roman Catholic stewardship, Mrs. Waga was fond of history, crocheting, reading books, sewing, geography, travel, crossword puzzles in polish and english and baking. She was very proud of her Polish heritage.

Above all, she was a best friend to all of her children, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Predeceased by her husband, Boleslaw, her son, Jerzy and her siblings, Roza Wierzbicka, Jadwiga Furmanska, Franeiszek Pazgrat, amd Stefan Pazgrat, she is survived by her children, Irena Waga, Grace Cancel, George Waga and his wife, Barbara, and Margaret Pinkiewicz, and her husband, Dennis, her grandchildren, Monika Cancel, Sonny Cancel, Crystal Cheri Koslov, Andrew VanOrden and Alexandra Waga, her great grandchildren, Nicholas Cancel and Zane Hamilton, many loving nieces and nephews who are in both the U.S. and Poland, and a host of close friends who loved her and whom she loved.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5 to 9 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. A funeral mass will be said Friday, August 3, 2018 at 10:15 AM at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 23 Manalapan Road, Spotswood. Friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9 AM on the day of the funeral.

Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, 490 Washington Road, Parlin.
