Joe Dale Royals, Sr., 83, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born on April 21, 1935 in Conway, SC to Joseph DeWitt and Lera Harrelson Royals. Joe is preceded in the death of his loving wife (Marie) of 35 years; survivors include his son, Dale (Sheryl) Royals; daughter, Amy (Todd) Simmons; 2 grandsons, Brandon (Rachel) Royals and Travis Simmons.

He also has a great grandchild on the way in January, 2019; twin sister, Jo Ann (Arthur) McDuffie and sister, Mary (Lloyd) Holmes. Joe was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Joe fought medical problems and cancer as long as he could stand the treatments but has lost that fight.

Joe was a great welder and loved getting the job done. He retired from Columbia Crawler, Corp. after 43 years of service.

Joe loved his kids, grandsons, family and friends very much. Joe loved meeting his friends for breakfast at D & D, woodworking in his shop, puzzles and old western movies. The family will receive friends at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 and other times at his daughter’s house, 612 Blackville Rd.

Gaston, SC 29053. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Alan Holmes, Chuck McDuffie, Vince Osborne, Roy Johnson, Clifton Simmons, and Jay Nunn. Joe was a cancer survivor and fighter. The family would like to extend a special thanks to SCOA (Dr. Minter), MSA Hospice and Solutions for all their help with our Dad.
