Johnson, Sr. and where he attended and graduated high school. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, which would later bring him to Amarillo.

After serving in the military, a chance opportunity brought him to Pampa. While in Pampa, he met the love of his life, Nelda Crouch and they had an eleven-year courtship and they later wed on October 15, 1966 in Pampa. Joe built fences for many years and operated the Shasta RV lot. Mr. Johnson was a long-time and very active member of the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ where he helped with the custodial care and served as a deacon and elder for the church. Joe was a generous man who put others before himself and would always use his time to help others or visit the sick.

The two most important things in his life was his family and his God and he made sure to pass God’s word to his family and anybody he came across. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, church-member, and friend and he will be greatly missed by all. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three stepbrothers; a stepmother; and by an unborn grandchild.

His survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Nelda Johnson; by his son, Brad Johnson and wife Lori of Amarillo; by his daughter, Beth Chlad and husband Jason of Colleyville; by a sister, Jimmie Dees of Monticello, Arkansas; by his three grandsons, Blake Johnson and Logan Johnson, both of Amarillo and Brayden Chlad of Colleyville.
