J. L. “PeeWee”‘s Obituary J. L. “PeeWee” Romines, 95, of Pampa, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at his home in Pampa. Services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. PeeWee was born on September 25, 1923 on Sundance Road in Amarillo to Essie and James Romines, Sr He grew up and attended school in Montague County.

Moving to Pampa at age 14, he started working at Western Union, where he got his nickname, PeeWee, then at Bruce & Son’s Moving Company. He later met and married Juanita Barnett and they shared almost 55 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 17, 1999. In 1945, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant.

After returning, he began his adventure in the oilfield. In 1958, he and Eben Warner began Copan Corporation, and later started a second company known as Romines & Warner Fishing Tool Rental. He continued to help operate the family businesses until his passing.

PeeWee found love again when he met Vivian Keough and they were married on December 29, 2000. He was a 50-year Mason with Masonic Lodge #1381. PeeWee enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking and shelling pecans.

He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and extensive knife, watch, clock and eagle collector. PeeWee attended and was a member of First Assembly of God Church for over 50 years. Later he and Vivian attended Central Baptist Church.

PeeWee will be remembered as a loving husband, father, PaPa, Big PaPa, great-great PaPa, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, four sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Romines of the home; daughter, Shirlene Topper and husband Mark of Pampa; two sons, Keven Romines and wife Janet, and Freddie Romines, all of Pampa; two step-sons, Chris Keough and wife Lisa and Jimmy Keough and wife Robin, all of Pampa; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
