Beloved father and grandfather, Joe Franklin Knotts, born September 6, 1927, joined his wife of sixty-five years, Nancy Kathryn Knotts in Heaven on July 14, 2018. During World War II, he served with the 8th Army Headquarters, stationed in Japan. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Grady Knotts, his mother, Rachel Hagler Knotts, and his brother, Archie Knotts.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte. . A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm officiated by Dr. Sam Moore.

He is survived by four sons, Joe Douglas Knotts (Beth Ann) of Shelby; Walter Darrell Knotts (Janice) of Salisbury; Ronald Dale Knotts (Elaine) of Statesville; Barry Wayne Knotts of Nahunta, GA; his grandchildren, Amy Bauguess (Scott) of Rockwell; Joshua Knotts (Kelly), of Stoney Point; Bobbi Jo McLaurin of Statesville; Stephen Knotts (Christy) of Kannapolis; Mary Grace Krider (Andy) of Statesville; Grady Knotts of Shelby; Rose Knotts of Mooresville; Marian Knotts of Shelby; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Zeb Knotts (Ethelyn) of Mint Hill; Nellie Marshall (Roger) of Camden, SC; Nancy Scercy (Pete) of Charlotte; and numerous attentive nieces and nephews. His passions in life were growing and sharing his garden, his regular fishing trips to Southport with his beloved “Kat”, and the friendships he formed with the Epworth Sunday School Class of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.

His undying strength and love will be forever cherished. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice Charlotte Region, and particularly Jacques Thillet, for their professional care.
