Charles “Pete” William Barnett, 71, of China Grove, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Friday, July 6, 2018. Pete was born January 18, 1947 in Grundy, Virginia, to the late Charlie Milburn Barnett and Virginia Ellen Kinder Barnett. In addition to his father, Pete was also preceded in death by his sister, Regina Barnett and great-granddaughter, Missy Rae Kee.

Pete was a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served in the Vietnam War. Pete was a coal miner most of his life.

He liked playing cards, fishing and watching NASCAR. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Edith Genvea Blankenship Barnett of the home; mother, Virginia Barnett of Richlands, VA; son, Jesse Melvin Barnett of the home; daughter, Patricia Ann Barnett of Rockwell, NC, daughter, Sarah Jane Barnett of Concord, NC; son, Richard William Barnett of Lexington, NC; and son, Jonathan Alexander Barnett of Spruce Pines, NC; brother, Jimmy Dale Barnett of Chapel Hill, TN; sister, Cathern Barnett Street of Fredericksburg, VA; 9 grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Richard, Charles Ray Ratliff, Courtney LeAnn Barnett, Tiffany Dawn Barnett, Michael Ray Barnett, Justin Allan Barnett, Zackery Ray Martin, Brianna Brooke Martin, and Jesse James Barnett; 9 great-grandchildren, Karissa, Dakota, Josiah, Taylor, Jacey, Lilly, Hazel, Brantley, and Arabella; and several nieces and nephews. Services are private.
