John A Graves July 27, 1925 – February 03, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Beloved husband, father and friend, John A. Graves of Aberdeen, Washington, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at the age of 93. Born in Liberty, Missouri on July 27, 1925, to Roy B. and Katherine Graves he graduated from high school in 1943. Johnie followed his older brother, who had joined the Air Force by enlisting in the Navy where he became an Aviation Radioman and unfortunately incurred a lifelong hearing loss.

Stationed in San Francisco on V-J Day and while on his way to serve in the Aleutian Islands, he ended up at Whidbey Island where he met the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Greenstreet. They were married on June 9, 1945, and celebrated 73 years of marriage. Johnie was a master plumber for 45 years working in Sarasota, Florida, plumbing various high-rise and commercial buildings during his career.

He and Pat, a registered nurse and then real estate agent, raised their two sons, Lary and Gregory (deceased in 1996 in Sedro Woolley, Washington and Sarasota, Florida. Johnie was a scoutmaster of troop 50 for 45 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow. A large part of Johnie’s life was devoted to the Boy Scouts of America and to his church.

He was always generous with his time and energy helping at his church, with the neighbors and those in need. Surviving relatives include his loving wife, Patricia; son and daughter-in-law, Lary and Dana of Portland, Oregon and sister, Dixie (Ronnie) of Bradenton, Florida. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing and after his retirement Johnie and Pat spent their time RV-ing across the country and were members of the “Sammamish Sams” Good Sam Club for 20 years.

They loved traveling, having parties and playing cards with all their wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 1:00 PM at the South Beach Presbyterian Church in Grayland, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be sent to the South Beach Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2677, Grayland, Washington 98595 or to the Grayland Guild of the Seattle Children’s Hospital, 904 Ferguson Dunes Lane, Westport, Washington 98595 Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam, Washington.
